Number theory: mathematical induction, factorization and fundamental theorem of arithmetic, the division and the Euclidean algorithms, linear Diophantine equations, congruence of classes in integers, modulo n, famous problems in number theory, arithmetic functions, elementary theory of the distribution of primes, quadratic reciprocity, and solutions of systems of congruence equations. Prerequisite: MTH 233 or MTH 236 or permission of the department.
