Course Title
Cognitive Development and Learning in Early Childhood
Department(s)
Description
The course focuses on the processes of cognitive development in early childhood (birth- grade 2) with connections to regularities of later development within the socio-cultural contexts and on learning experiences and assessments reflecting understanding of those processes. It also addresses the key issues of social, emotional, personal, and linguistic development according to the underlying fundamental notion of the whole developing child, in which all these developmental aspects are intertwined and profoundly influence each other. The uniqueness of psychological development in early childhood, along with fundamental similarities to other developmental periods, is scrutinized. A fieldwork component of 10 hours is included. The fieldwork in varied educational settings will increase awareness of individual differences and their implications for classroom learning.
